Team Member Highlight – Warly Santiago

We are an awesome team at CNG Studios! Every once in a while we like to highlight our team members so that you can learn a little more about them. This time we are checking in with Warly Santiago, our Lead Animator:

Q: Where are you from?

A: Philippines

Q: How do you say: Hello!

A: Kamusta!

Q: We hope you love video games…which one is your favorite?

A: Yes! I love many games, but my favorites are Wakfu and Warcraft (Dota).

Q: What got you into video games?

A: The character design and concept art gives me inspiration for my own creativity and of course, they are fun to play. 🙂

Q: Why did you decide to go the artistic route?

A: My passion is art and to be artistic. I could not imagine doing anything else.

Q: What is your creative process for developing concept art?

A: I research every concept thoroughly. I start a conversation with Gonzalo about some main ideas and he also sends me examples of what he is looking for or what he is inspired by. After the initial research, I send him an initial draft and then we usually have a follow up conversation to make tweaks and get to the final drawing.

Q: Where did you learn how to create these awesome concepts and animations?

A: I learned these techniques through my experience with my previous employer and developing it through self studies. I have always loved to draw and make sure that I am constantly practicing and trying new techniques.

Q: Which one is your favorite tool and why? Which one is your second favorite tool?

A: I love Toonboom because of its friendly features for a more traditional way of drawing. My second favorite tool is Photoshop. You can do so much with it!

Q: Which recommendation would you have to a starting/new artist?

A: Continue to learn new things and techniques to enhance your drawing skills. Practice every day.

Q: What is your favorite snack while you are working?

A: Coffee and biscuits! I work around the clock so I always have to fuel up on the good stuff.
