The H.E.L.I.X. Enforcers. Game development update

The Helix Enforcers team (Fox, Squirrel, Iguana and Ferret)

It has been a while since we posted an update on the development of our game, The Helix Enforcers, but we promise it is worthy.

Since the last two years, we have been focusing on cleaning up the mechanics for The Helix Enforcers game, working out character design, getting it copyrighted, taking care of some animations and creating a better prototype.

We have been participating in contests, like GAME ON (Miami, FL), GAAM Show (Jacksonville, FL), Orlando IX (Orlando, FL), and other events. We have been surprised by how well our game has been received by players. Our survey to all players who tested at Orlando IX showed 99.02% of approval and support for our game, and it was just the prototype with some glitches.

But there is so much to do and so much pending.

At this moment:

  • All Bosses have been designed and drawn.
  • We have a full area with a Boss fight developed, with the not so infamous Cubik Celsius.
  • Integration mechanics with other levels were also coded (Thanks to Cristian Figueroa, who did the amazing code in an incredible time).
  • Music for the level and similar areas were completed (Thanks to Mario Gonzalez)
  • Two characters are completed: Dom – CQC expert and Nyx – Sniper. We are missing Max and CB. It is amazing to see them alive on the screen.

And as life happens, we faced multiple roadblocks…, something usual in game development. New challenges and opportunities arise and we are looking into those. They may delay the full game, but sometimes you just need the time to set it right.

For example, we have to update our engine due to changes in Unity. We were using legacy to avoid breaking things, but it is too late now… we needed to update the engine and all customization had to be done again. Sadly, that is the nature of software development and customization.

However, this gave us a break from coding to get into something we considered key too. While a game has to be fun (no doubt there!) and the mechanics need to be neat, there is something else that makes, in our humble opinion, an epic game. The storyline.
